Expanded polystyrene
Polystyrene is made from a foam material called expanded polystyrene or extruded polystyrene (XPS), which is valuable for its insulating and flexibility properties. Polystyrene foam can be more than 95% air and is widely used in the manufacture of home insulation and home appliances, lightweight protective packaging, surfing, food service and food packaging, auto parts, stabilization systems Used for road and corrugated and so on.
Polystyrene structure
Chemically, polystyrene is a long-chain hydrocarbon in which variable carbon centers are attached to phenyl groups (the name given to ring benzene). The chemical formula is polystyrene (n (C8H8); it contains moles of the chemical elements carbon and hydrogen.
The properties of the material are determined by the short-term adsorption of the tub on the waltz between the polymer chains. Because molecules are long-chain hydrocarbons made up of thousands of atoms, the overall tensile force between the molecules is large. When heated (or rapidly deformed due to a combination of viscoelastic and thermal insulation properties), the chains become more compatible and overlap. This intermolecular looseness (as opposed to high intermolecular strength due to hydrocarbon strength) gives the material a state of flexibility and elasticity. The ability of the system to deform at temperatures higher than the temperature at which its glass is converted to polystyrene (and heat-softenable polymers in general) allows it to easily soften into various shapes when heated.
Polystyrene, abbreviated GPPS, used for general purposes, usually has properties such as good heat resistance, good impact strength, and good process fluidity. These polystyrenes have high dielectric properties and strength, therefore, they are widely used in electrical applications. The brand name of this product in the Iranian market is Crystal.
