Polystyrene and its role in medicine

Polystyrene and its role in medicine
Polymers are many long carbon fibers that will have many applications in various industries, especially the medical industry. One of the most effective reasons for the development of medical equipment can be identified and the production of suitable polymers in this field.

Silicon in its application in medical polymers

Silicon is a polymer that has many applications in the preparation of medical equipment and due to its high thermal resistance, long life and dielectric properties of silicones, this polymer will be used the most. As mentioned, in the case of the role of polymers in the production of medical devices, silicon can not be ignored. Silicone is used in the production of artificial hearts, endoscopic tubes, various types of eye lenses or even wound adhesives. One of the new polymers in the silicon family is urethane silicon copolymer, which is more efficient and at the same time does less damage to the environment. Silicon-urethane copolymer, silicon ratio have longer thermal resistance and life.

Polyurethane

The physical properties and proper compatibility of polyurethanes with blood, make them play a colorful role in the production of medical components. On the other hand, the parts produced with this polymer are transparent and can be sterilized by oxidative radiation and gas. These polymers are highly resistant to fats. For this reason, polyurethane is used to produce laboratory utensils, blood pump devices, surgical prostheses, etc.

The role of polymers in the production of medical devices such as artificial heart vessels and surgical dressings is also clear. The reason for the high use of polyurethane in the production of artificial vessels is its greater strength than other elastometers, and of course you should know that this polymer can not be used in the manufacture of all medical equipment. For example, polyurethane is not used in the manufacture of cardiovascular prostheses. Because it greatly increases the possibility of blood clots.

Polycarbonate in the application of polymers in medicine

Polycarbonate polymers such as silicon and polyurethane have high thermal resistance and due to other physical and chemical properties of polycarbonate, the role of polymers in the production of medical equipment is not limited. Because they will also be used in the packaging of medical equipment. Light weight, strength, flexibility, transparency and impact resistance of this polymer, has made polycarbonate to glass preferred in the equipment packaging industry. On the other hand, the high strength of this polymer has made it a suitable alternative in the production of metal surgical instruments.
Polystyrene Polystyrene equipment can be seen in the laboratory and more than anywhere else. Polystyrene polymer filaments are very hard and at the same time they are brittle and have low melting temperature. All these features, in addition to its transparency, increase the role of polystyrene polymer in the production of laboratory medical components. Bottles, test tubes, caps, serum storage containers, and blood storage tubes are examples of the use of this polymer in the manufacture of medical components.

Polyolefin

It is interesting to know that the role of polymers in the production of medical equipment is very wide and open. The use of polyolefin polymer is not small and it is used in the manufacture of various equipment and this polymer is used in the production of blood bags, laboratory tubes, medicine bottles and even artificial hip joints. Physical and chemical properties of polyolefin include resistance to moisture penetration, electrical insulation, high strength and tensile strength. One of the reasons for using this polymer is its low and cheap price.

Polytetrafluoroethylene

The special properties of this polytetrafluoroethylene have made the role of polymers in the production of medical equipment more colorful. Properties such as low coefficient of friction, abrasion resistance and high thermal resistance are the unique features of this polymer. The production of vascular grafts, surface coatings as well as orthopedic screw and plate coatings are examples of the application of this polymer in the medical equipment industry.
